Pastor’s Notes
Wow! My last pastor’s notes. I
wonder what I can say that I haven’t already said. Friends, I think you know my
heart and my desire is for this church to hear God’s call and respond by serving
the local community and the world-wide community using all the gifts given to
you by our Creator…and I’m not talking just about financial gifts. There’s so
much more.
My prayers are, and will continue
to be, for wisdom and understanding for this congregation. I hope that in a
year I can ask someone why there needs to be a Presbyterian church in Walnut,
Iowa and the answer will come so fast my head will spin.
God has blessed all of us with so
much as we’ve worked together to serve this community here and in the
surrounding communities. I know that will continue. I’ve been blessed to have
worked with so many dedicated and intelligent leaders on the session.
So, my good friends, I leave you
with these words. We have been given the directions from our Lord, Jesus Christ,
to love our neighbors as much as we love ourselves and to love God with all our
being. Before Jesus ascended into heaven he told his disciples, which includes
you and me, to “…go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to
obey everything I have commanded you.”
That is our work as long as we have breath in our bodies. Remember there
is no early retirement from this call to serve God.
My brothers and sisters, God
loves you and so do I.
Pastor David
Good-Bye
from Linda (Pastor’s wife)
I don’t know who will be writing the Gleaner
from now on but I wish them the best.
Eight years ago David said to me, “What do you think of me quitting my
job and taking a job at less than half the pay?”
I cannot tell a lie, my first thought was,
“Are you nuts?” but what I said was, “It’s your decision, you have to do what
you feel called to do.” So the adventure
began and now that it’s ending we’re starting a new chapter in our lives. Chapter One – Visit Son and Family Chapter
Two – Linda’s Honey Do List. There is no Chapter Three because I know David
(enough said).
I should apologize here also. If I offended anyone with my idea of humor in
the Gleaner I am sorry.
Sincerely and with Love,
Linda
Pastor Joel is planning on being in the Church
office on Tuesday and Thursday mornings if you need to see him. Note his cell phone number in the heading of
the Gleaner.
Thank-you
Thank-you to Margo Matthies for providing the
beautiful arrangements in our entry flower urns.
Thank-you to Julie Nash for helping with
Confirmation Classes.
Sometimes memories
sneak out of my eyes and roll down my cheeks.
Prayers
Please
pray for Mike Shutters as he heals. Mike
was in an accident at his work place and is still in the hospital at this
time. He and his wife Cathy have been
such active members of our church and will be sorely missed while he
recuperates.
